3 Things I Did to Lose 35 Pounds

weight loss

When I hit menopause, the weight gain came knocking like a sledgehammer. Along with added pounds, I began to experience mental health issues, inability to sleep at night, irritability, and yes those crazy mood swings. I knew only I could redirect the course of where I was heading. Here’s how I did it:

  1. I started by challenging myself to not eat meat for one month. I do love fish, so allowed myself to enjoy any and all fish along with a plant heavy intake. In one month, I had shed 10 pounds.

2. The second month I cut out all alcohol. I drink sparkling water, tea, and one cup of coffee a day. I have found so many delicious non-alcoholic options like N/A sparkling wine, beer, and mocktails. I do not drink sugary sodas or          energy drinks. Water gives me a tons of energy. The more I drink the more energy I have. Once I cut out the booze, the weight said goodbye like a bad breakup and never returned.

3. I began to focus on my mental health with daily prayer, meditation, stretching, and writing a gratitude list every morning. Before I start scrolling I sit quietly. I reflect, think about the day ahead, and I thank God for all the incredible things He has given to me.

I rinse and repeat every. single. day! Today I celebrate 134 days of sobriety and 160 days of being a Pescatarian. I have lost 35 pounds, and I’m still losing the weight. I’m getting the best, most restful and peaceful sleep of my life. The irritability and mood swings are gone, and my mental health brings me peace instead of anquish.

In this new blog, I will share the recipes I created for myself and my family that has led to this moment along with my spiritual journey. I have been gate keeping my creations for a cookbook, but now that task seems too steep with the current demands of running my organization. I want to be able to share as much as I can with as many people as possible, because I want others to know that they can make this transformation too.
